08/24/23 Update: Anxiety Reducing Foods (found under Nutrition) - If you have anxiety, there are foods that you can eat which may help in relieving some of those symptoms. However, even though diet can support mental health, diet alone should not be substituted for medication and therapy prescribed by your doctor.

05/26/23 Update: The Senior Health section has been updated, at the bottom of the page, to include information on how to prevent certain diseases or conditions, the healthy foods to eat, and daily sample menus. I often know the foods to eat for a specific condition but often I am not sure which foods should go together for a meal. Hopefully the meals and menus listed on this page will be a helpful guidance.
05/24/23 Update: A new page has been added to the Weight Loss Info section called Glycemic Index and Weight Gain. If you have trouble losing weight, especially in the tummy, this information can be helpful. By choosing low glycemic foods, not only can it help you lose weight but it also helps prevent and manage many other diseases, like diabetes.
05/21/23 Update: Senior Health has been updated. The new page is titled "Staying Healthy and Positive as we Age." It highlights the benefits, the positive aspects, and preventative measures of aging. Hope this new updated page will be helpful.
05/19/23 Update: Senior Health is a new section found under Health for anyone 50 years old and over. As we age, our bodies often require different or special care to function properly. This section will give information regarding the kinds of changes or illnesses that may occur as we age and some suggestions on how to either prevent or manage those changes. In addition, I added a new recipe called Baked Oatmeal, which I just tried and love. It's great for breakfast and holds me until lunch. Check it out.

12/29/22 Update: Arthritis and Inflammation: The more I read, the more I realize how easy it is to have an inflamed body that gives us many illnesses, including arthritis, cardiovascular disease, cancer, Alzheimer's, asthma, inflammatory bowel disease, obesity, diabetes and more. There are ways to fight this inflammation through diet and lifestyle which are explained in my revised section called Arthritis and Inflammation.
12/25/22 Update: Weight-Loss: Weight gain is a real possibility after the holidays. To lose weight, you need to cut calories. I either log my food to keep track or add a protein shake in the morning to reduce my overall calories for the day. Is it safe and will a shake fill you up? 12/14/22 Update: Food Safety is important, especially with all the viruses and bacteria that surround us. A new topic has been added to my website patshealthylifestyle.com called Food Safety, found under the Nutrition tab . Many food safety questions are answered in this section. One of the questions I’ve been hearing is, if food falls on the floor and you pick it up within 5 seconds, it is safe to eat – Is this true? Some of the information may surprise you.

12/04/22 Update: Today I added two interesting videos: 15 Foods That Help Fight Cancer and Sore Throat Remedies at Home. I found the sore throat video informative since I am presently experiencing the related symptoms. I also just purchased some Raw Manuka honey because it is known to help treat viral and bacterial type sore throats (just take 1 Tbsp of honey in the morning and 1 Tbsp before bed to coat your throat). 12/02/22 Update: The holidays are upon us and with that we experience joy and maybe also weight-gain, stress and sometimes sadness about our loved ones who have passed away. The two areas covered today is Healthy Holiday Eating, which gives tips on reducing some weight gain and Age-Related Weight Gain which most of us experience as we get older. I love this recipe because it only uses two ingredients, is easy to make, is healthier than mashed potatoes, is low-cal, low-carb and tasty, and adds to my vegetable requirement for the day. Also, I listed another diet program called The Whole Body Reset, written for people at mid-life who are having trouble losing weight and it is based on protein timing.
